With it being reported earlier this week that Shailene Woodley’s scenes as Mary Jane Watson have already been cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it was believed that the actress would be getting her MJ run out in the third Spidey film. Well, ET is reporting that not only has Woodley completely left the franchise, but that Mary Jane has already been recast for her appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 3. The official line is that Shailene Woodley cannot appear in a third film due to scheduling commitments.
Who’s been cast in the MJ role, I hear you ask. Well, that would be Sarah Gadon. Gadon is best known for her appearances in Cosmopolis and Dream House. Gadon has officially joined the franchise, although she refused to answer any questions on whether she is stepping into the role of Mary Jane.
The Spidey sequel will see Peter Parker looking to juggle his high school graduation, his affection for Gwen Stacy and his promise to her father that he will stay away from her, and the small matter of a couple of supervillains – namely Electro and Rhino.
Andrew Garfield returns as Pater Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. Joining them is Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn, Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is released on 2nd May, 2014.
