Entertainment Weekly have been speaking to Andrew Garfield about a few Spider-Things. One such topic of conversation was the removal of Mary Jane Watson from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the recasting of MJ now that Shailene Woodley has had to pull out of the series. Garfield is apparently quite keen for Chronicle‘s Michael B. Jordan to fill the Mary Jane void.
The actor said, “I was like, ‘What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t we discover that Peter is exploring his sexuality? It’s hardly even groundbreaking! So why can’t he be gay? Why can’t he be into boys?”
Garfield added, “I’ve been obsessed with Michael B. Jordan since The Wire. He’s so charismatic and talented. It would be even better – we’d have interracial bisexuality.”
Garfield ended the interview by saying that these type of decisions are above his jurisdiction, so he wasn’t sure if Sony Pictures would be interested in making Spider-Man gay.
As for Jordan, he’s reportedly up for the role of Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in Josh Trank’s upcoming Fantastic Four film.
