Last week saw plenty of news on remakes, reboots, sequels, yada yada yada… and here’s another one to add to the list.
The guys over at BloodyDisguting are reporting that Lionsgate have got plans for another film in the Saw franchise. The last release in the series was back in 2010 with Saw 3D. There’s nothing official in place as of yet, but there’s apparently plans for some sort of new film. It was initially thought that there may be a reboot of the series, but it’s now looking more like we’ll actually be getting Saw 8 instead, continuing the work of the previous films.
The original concept of Saw was devised by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, both of whom have gone on to have a good deal of success in the horror genre. Sadly, Wan has now moved on to the latest Fast & Furious film. During its run, Saw was the daddy of the Halloween season for a decade. In recent years, the October horror market has mainly been dominated by the Paranormal Activity series, which are set for a spin-off film in January, 2014, then Paranormal Activity 5 in October, 2014.
Expect more on this as it becomes available.
