Firstly, there’s maybe some slight spoilers for Thor: The Dark World in here, so turn back now if you’ve not seen the God of Thunder’s latest outing. You’ve been warned…

As Thor: The Dark World came to a close, we were treated to a mid-credits scene featuring Benicio Del Toro as The Collector. Sif and Volstagg visit the twisted character to give him the Aether, which was the cause of so much problem throughout the film. The Collector quips, “One down, give to go,” and it’s revealed that the Tesseract seen in previous Marvel Studios films is an Infinity Gem, as is the Aether. When the six Infinity Gems are brought together in the Infinity Gauntlet, the holder gains God-like power of all reality. Serious stuff, no? Well, the guys over at Crave have managed to probe Marvel big wig Kevin Feige on what’s ahead for the stones.

On what stone is represented by the Tesseract, Feige revealed, “I don’t know when we’ll actually divulge that necessarily, but it’s the Space stone.”

With the Space stone down, that leaves the Soul, Time, Mind, Reality, and Power stones. I’d imagine that the Aether is best suited to fit the Reality stone, so that just leaves us to find out just how the other stones are to be incorporated into future Marvel films.

When asked as to whether the Infinity Gems are to be the focus of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy or whether it’s an arc that will play-out across and into Marvel’s Phase Three of films, Feige said, “Well the answer to that is both. It is both. And then, you know, who knows? If they allow us to keep making movies, it will go a little bit further.”

Personally, with The Collector being one of the villains in Guardians of the Galaxy, I’d expect the whole ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ to play heavily into the story of Guardians, with that arc then continuing through further Marvel Studios releases.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see how this is all adapted to the big screen.
