Variety is reporting that bestest-buds, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, have signed on to adapt Vertigo’s Sleeper comic book series for the big screen. The adaptation will be for DC Entertainment and Warner Brothers. The Shield‘s Shawn Ryan and The Killing‘s David Wiener are to work on the screenplay.
The Sleeper series only ran from 2003 to 2005, and an adaptation was previously in place with Sam Raimi to direct and Tom Cruise to star. That all feel apart, and here we are again… hoping for this to get off the ground.
Created by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, Sleeper focuses on an operative who comes in contact with an alien artefact; an artefact that renders him impervious to any pain. Not just that, it also allows him to store pain and to pass it on to others through skin contact. Placed undercover in a villainous organisation by an intelligence agency, he uses his powers for the greater good… although that doesn’t last, and some pretty badass actions result in him playing one side off against the other.
Expect more on this as it develops.
