“I Saw The Devil” Remake Is On The Way

Gah! Really?!?! Hollywood, you disappoint me on a far too regular basis.

Yes, The Wrap is reporting that Kim Jee-Woon’s stunning I Saw the Devil is getting the Hollywood remake treatment. The rights to the US version have been secured by 1984 Private Defense Contractors, who were behind last year’s surprisingly good Dredd.

1984’s Adi Shankar said, “Kim Jee-Woon’s I Saw the Devil is perfect in so many ways. The intention is not to remake the film per se, but rather to ‘port’ it for international audiences.”

How about rather than ‘port’ it, you just promote the original film in the US market and trust the film’s ability to woo audiences regardless of language or style?

The original film focuses on a special agent who hunts down the serial killer responsible for killing his fiance. Torture and pain ensues on both sides, as the film develops into a brutal game of cat-and-mouse.

Expect more on this as it develops.
