Images and Story Behind Ben Kingsley’s Marvel Return

After spending of plenty time teasing us about his Marvel return, Ben Kingsley’s re-emergence in the world created by Marvel Studios and Disney has finally been revealed. Remember those stories of the real Mandarin appearing to probe Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery, aka the faux Mandarin that Iron Man 3 delivered to us. EW has the full details of the return, along with several images of Kingsley’s character.

Trevor’s return will take place, as predicted, in a ‘One-Shot’ feature. Titled All Hail the King, the One Shot will be part of the Thor: The Dark World DVD and Blu-ray release. The 14-minute short find Trevor serving some ‘hard time’ in Seagate prison – a regular holding-pen in the comic book world – and being interviewed by a documentary filmmaker played by Scoot McNairy (Argo). What happens next is that it turns out that the Mandarin is actually a real force, who returns to ‘have a word’ with Trevor.

Iron Man 3 screenwriter Drew Pearce has being heavily involved in All Hail the King, and he told EW, “Imagine a real terrorist organisation whose beliefs were long held and religious for thousands of years, and imagine a drunk, British actor coming along and essentially telling the world that he’s the face of your organisation. I think they would be right to be quite angry.”

Going on to discuss the idea behind the feature, Pearce added, “‘The Further Adventures of Trevor’ was something we had talked about on set all the time, and when we sat down to talk about what the short would be, it was Stephen [Broussard, executive producer of Iron Man 3] and Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and myself and Joss Whedon and Jeremy Latcham [executive producer of The Avengers.] So we kicked around a bunch of ideas and there were loads of them that we liked, and it was actually Joss who at a certain point went, like, ‘Or you could do the one that has Sir Ben Kingsley in it because you have access to Sir Ben Kingsley.'”

On the potential future for Marvel’s One-Shot features, Pearce said, “By the end of the short, there are definitely a lot of exciting other places that are brought up in it that could then go in the Marvel universe. You know, whether that’s an Iron Man movie or another one going into Phse Two or Three.”

Trevor’s return, All Hail the King, will be released as part of the Thor: The Dark World DVD and Blu-ray release on 25th February.
