“Constantine” to Feature Papa Midnite

It’s being reported by Bleeding Cool that NBC’s Constantine may feature long-time John Constantine foe Papa Midnite.

At present, the show is currently at the pilot stage, although it’s expected that it would take a ridiculously abysmal showing for the pilot not to make it to a full season. Whilst the pilot will focus on the origin of Constantine, Midnite will be a recurring character if the show does, as expected, make it to a full season. It’s also noted that Ravenscar Psychiatric Hospital, a familiar location from the books, will be used in the series.

Papa Midnite was created by Jamie Delano and John Ridgway in Hellblazer #1. He’s an immortal mob boss who uses voodo and some badass necromancy. It’s also worth noting that Djimon Hounsou played the character in the Keanu Reeves-starring Constantine.

In terms of NBC’s Constantine, Matt Ryan was recently confirmed to be playing the lead role, and David Goyer has been writing the script with Daniel Cerone. Neil Marshall will be directing the pilot, which is expected to start shooting shortly.
