After directing The Amazing Spider-Man and the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it comes as now major surprise to hear that Marc Webb is to return for The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Variety has the scoop, with Webb to helm the threequel that’s currently set for a 10th June, 2016 release.
With Sony Pictures confirming The Amazing Spider-Man 3, The Amazing Spider-Man 4, Venom and The Sinister Six several months ago, and with Webb playing such an important creative role in the series of films that the studio is looking to produce, it was a no-brainer to have the director return. It’s also already known that Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner are currently working on the script for The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Nothing concrete is known in terms of plot for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, although Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker and Paul Giamatti has confirmed that he will return as Rhino. Logic would say that things would also progress further towards the Sinister Six group, as Spidey’s rogues’ gallery looks to expand.
As for other future films, The Amazing Spider-Man 4 is currently scheduled for a 4th May, 2018, Venom is being written by Kurtzman, Orci and Ed Solomon, to be directed by Kurtzman, and The Sinister Six is being written and directed by The Cabin in the Woods‘ Drew Goddard.
