Whilst G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘s Jon M. Chu was initially set to direct Columbia Pictures’ Masters of the Universe, the director has recently left the project. Various reports now claim that Columbia are looking at getting a new director on board as soon as possible. It’s claimed that currently in the frame are Kick-Ass 2‘s Jeff Wadlow, The Karate Kid‘s Harald Zwart, Another Earth‘s Mike Cahill and The LEGO Movie‘s editor and animation supervisor Chris McKay.
The Masters of the Universe reboot has been doing for the rounds for years now, so we’ll see if this actually materialises to anything. I’d say that now is as good a chance as any for He-Man to get another big screen outing following the 1987 Dolph Lundgren-starring movie.
The character of He-Man and his supporting characters began life as a 1982 toy line from Mattel, and it was then turned into a children’s cartoon that is a staple of so many childhoods. The basic story centres on Prince Adam of Eternia, who transforms into the warrior He-Man, and his battle against the evil Skeletor.
