Stylish, Old-School Poster for “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”

Winter’s nearly upon us. Or something like that. Basically, come Tuesday, I’ll be enjoying the delights of a double-bill of Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As we get ever closer to The Winter Soldier‘s release, artist Paolo Rivera has designed this stunning, “classic” poster for the movie.

The official word on the film is:

After the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), aka Captain America, living quietly in Washington, DC and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk.

Joining forces with the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon (Anthony Mackie). However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy – the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).

The film features the return of Steve Rogers’ best friend, Bucky Barnes. Last seen falling to his death in Captain America: The First Avenger, there’s a little bit of a problem with Bucky’s return. You see, whilst Cap was frozen for years, came back to life and led The Avengers, Bucky went down a little bit of a different path. Bucky was actually frozen in ice, found by Russians, and had suffered both the loss of one of his arms and amnesia. Turned into a master assassin by the Russians, Bucky was dubbed the Winter Soldier and would be defrosted between any missions that he was needed for, hence why he hasn’t really aged too much. Now the two have to go head-to-head.

Just to put it out there for any of you that aren’t familiar with the character, the Winter Soldier is a complete badass. Trust me.

Also featuring in the film are Frank Grillo, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Scarlett Johansson, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Maximiliano Hernandez, Robert Redford and George St-Pierre.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is released on 4th April, 2014 worldwide, whilst us lucky UK souls get the Cap sequel on 25th March, 2014.

  1. I wonder if I can buy that poster from anywhere . . . I’ve seen the film, and it is incredible. It does a great job of showcasing Caps strength (seriously, the action scenes are mind blowing), his honesty, integrity, and also that he represents more than just a flag. Falcon and the new villains introduced are spectacular. I’m watching it again tomorrow, one of the best films in the super hero genre.

    • Ooh, sounds promising. I’ve got a double-bill tomorrow night, although I’ve kinda ruined part of it for myself. I got the chance to chatter with the Russos and asked a question that I’m a bit sad I got an answer too as it now spoils part of it. Sure it’ll still kick ass.

      • Certain bits were kept hush-hush, mainly Qs about Arnim Zola’s role, Winter Soldier not being quite the bad guy, and whether they’d be back for Cap 3. Was generally a good chatter as we just bullshitted about comics for about 30 mins. The guys are both big fans, so we talked about Secret Wars and Civil War as possibilities for the future.

      • I was thinking Skull might appear as pulling the strings over Winter Soldier or even being behind Redford’s Pierce. Seems that honour goes to someone else. Still, massively looking forward to this. After chatting to the bros, having watched the first 10 minutes and having seen all the chatter about the film, I cannot wait.
