Channing Tatum Confirms “Gambit” Talks

With producer Lauren Shuler Donner regularly discussing how she’d like for Channing Tatum to play Gambit in an upcoming X-Men film, plus the actor talking about his admiration for the character, now comes word from Tatum that he’s actually met for talks with Donner about the role.

Speaking to MTV, the Magic Mike star revealed, “I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. And I would love it. Gambit is really the only X-Man I’ve ever loved. I mean I’ve loved them all, they’re all great, but I guess from being down south, I just related to him.”

On what he liked about the cool Cajun, he added, “He’s just kind of suave. He’s the most un-X-Men X-Man that’s ever been in the X-Men. Other than maybe Wolverine, who’s like the anti-hero. He’s not even a hero. He’s kind of walking the line of grey. He loves women and drinking and smoking and stuff, so he’s just a cool guy who happens to have a moral centre. I hope it comes together. You never know, it’s a weird industry. If the stars align, I would die to play it. I’m already working on the accent. It’s crappy at the moment.”

Whilst X-Men Origins: Wolverine featured Taylor Kitsch as Gambit, Bryan Singer has mentioned several times that he’s looking at having a version of the character in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse. Added to this, Donner has recently talked about how she’d love to do a Gambit solo movie at some point.

At this point, it seems a given that Tatum will get the Remy LeBeau gig at some point, although these things don’t always pan out how logic dictates. Personally, I kinda hope he does get the role.

Expect more on this as it develops, cher.

  1. The best superheroes are the most unlikely ones. I mean… Spiderman is a nerd. I’m sure he never would be expected to be hero material. Tatum might be good. My only problem is the way he talks…
