After Joss Whedon’s Avengers Assemble gave audiences a Hulk that stole the show, there’s been regular talk of the Green Goliath getting another solo movie. With Ang Lee’s Hulk often accused of being too serious and with not enough ‘Hulk Smash’, then Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk been accused of being too much of a comic book movie, one suggestions for a future Hulk movie is for it to follow the Planet Hulk comic book arc. However, it appears that the current Hulk, Mark Ruffalo, isn’t too keen on that idea.
Speaking to MTV, Ruffalo said, “Planet Hulk? I don’t think that’s the way to go yet. I think you need more Banner. The whole thing is just him as Hulk, on a planet, fighting other gladiators.”
Ruffalo very much has a point; that is pretty much what Planet Hulk is, in a nutshell. Given how Ruffalo is such a credible actor, it would be majorly remiss of Marvel Studios to have Ruffalo purely provide motion-capture for a movie. If Planet Hulk was adapted into a movie, you’d have to have Hulk, as opposed to Banner, in the majority of the film.
Whether another solo Hulk film ever comes to fruition or not, you can see him ‘Smash’ once again when Avengers: Age of Ultron hits globally on 1st May, 2015.
