Jamie Foxx to Play Mike Tyson

Variety is reporting that Oscar winner Jamie Foxx has signed on to play “Iron” Mike Tyson in the currently-untitled Tyson biopic being developed.  The Wolf of Wall Street‘s Terence Winter is currently writing the script, although it’s not sure what timeline the film will cover. It’s said that there will be a look at Tyson’s younger days, with CGI being used to de-age Foxx.

This isn’t the first time that “Iron” Mike has been the subject of  a feature, with HBO doing Tyson, starring Michael Jai White, back in 1995. Then there’s the various Tyson documentaries and Being Mike Tyson series.

Arguably the greatest boxer of all time, Mike Tyson is a fascinating person for a whole plethora of reasons, some of which aren’t exactly positives. Either way, it should make for an interesting film, and Jamie Foxx should make for a great “Iron” Mike.

Expect more on this as it develops.

  1. Seem unnecessarily expensive to use CGI to turn back the clock for Fox. Why not just hire a younger actor? I understood the technology for something like “Tron: Legacy”, but for this? What’s the point?

    • Agreed, although I think Foxx is a great choice to play Tyson in terms of his acting chaps, his physicality, and his presence. But yeah, does seem a massive unneeded cost to do the whole CG thing. Guess it depends on how much of the film involves Tyson’s younger days.
