Despite some horrendous reviews, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has surprisingly well at the box office, having experienced a $65 million opening in North America. And so as ever the case when this happens, the inevitable sequel has already been confirmed to roll into screens on 6th June, 2016.
In a statement, President of Paramount’s Film Group, Adam Goodman, said, “Launching a new take on the Turtles into the feature film world was a daunting task because as fans of them ourselves, we felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the Turtles, while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story.”
Additionally it’s been confirmed that Michael Bay will again produce, although there’s no word on whether director Jonathan Liebesman or any of the first film’s cast will be returning. That said, the film’s Donatello, Jeremy Howard, recently revealed (in an interview featured in the TMNT-heavy Starburst #403 – on sale now) that the principal cast have all signed on for three movies.
Expect more on this as it develops.
