Marvel Studios and Disney have a slate planned out right the way through until 2020. Now we don’t know all of the movies that they have planned, but we’ve seen the confirmed release dates – there’s lots of ’em coming, kids. With it presumed that the several new superheroes will be brought into the fold over the next year, now comes word that, starting with Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange, Marvel Studios will be shelving origin stories, instead picking up with characters who have been heroes for a little while. That’s the word according to Devan Faraci of BadassDigest, usually a reliable source and speaking on the Meet The Movie Press Podcast,
Faraci claimed, “Marvel’s new thing is no more origin stories. So Doctor Strange’s movie no longer has an origin. It begins in media res [the midst of things]. It’s got Doctor Strange already established as the Sorcerer Supreme. It’s a totally new script, without any of the previous stuff. They’re not even touching the previous script.”
The previous script that Faraci touches on is the one that floated around various online outlets earlier this year; one which was an out and out origin story for Doc Strange.
With Marvel supposedly looking to introduce the likes of Ms. Marvel, Black Panther, and The Inhumans over the next few years, it’ll be interesting to see how this develops. As ever, though, treat all of this as rumour for now.
Additionally, Scott Derrickon’s Doctor Strange is rumoured to be released on 8th July, 2016.
